Did you know that before you release a book, you have to spend at least a solid two months trying to require as many reviews from total strangers as you can? This is because reviews are important. If you have fewer than 10 amazon reviews, your book’s basically dead in the water. 25 is better, and really, you should aim to hit a solid 50.
Why from total strangers, you ask? Well, Amazon knows that the friends and family of the author are the first candidates to buy a copy of your book, and they’re likely to say nice things about it. So to even the score, Amazon tries to remove any reviews left by your friends and family members to present a less biased ranking of your book.
And how do they know who your friends and family members are?
Easy. They check their “also boughts” history. If they’ve never purchased a book in your genre before, their review stands a good chance of getting whacked.
