Good Afternoon, World πŸ™‚

Vanilla ice-cream in my coffee? Hell yeah, ladies and gentlemen. We’re living large and in charge, because that’s how we roll. I may be a broke-ass stay-at-home-mom writer, but I luxuriate in my choice of beverage like a queen.

I’m listening to a loop of coffeeshop background noises as I write. Did you know science –– SCIENCE – has shown that droning, not-distracting sound in the background actually helps to improve your concentration? I know, it’s nuts, but my experience has borne that out. The chatter of random strangers and the lonely, lilting bleet of a saxophone playing muzack really helps the words spill out. You, too, may hear this lovely, unremarkable soundscape by clicking here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD4dMdpNe_I&t=704s. And yes, it is eight hours long.

I just wrote a little over 500 words on my article “Marketing for Introverts” on Medium, and now that I’ve had my fill of that for the moment, I figured I may as well check in on my internet home at livmilesbooks.com and see how you fine people are doing. That’s how I see this blog, really. It’s my address, my place to just hang out and chill and say whatever I want.

Anyone is welcome to come, anyone is welcome to go. The door is open to all souls. I love the company, both new and old.

Back when I first started blogging, I worried that even posting on social media was somehow egocentric. Writing about the minutia of one’s day just seemed so needlessly self-indulgent, and unlikely to produce any product of value.

I mean, come on.

Do I get a manuscript out of this? No. Am I getting paid? Hell no.

But I do have a place where I can just spill my thoughts about whatever the hell I want, and I like that. Additionally – and by additionally, I mean with the most crass intonation imaginable – I’m supposed to be creating my author platform, which means regularly attracting and engaging with followers, fans, and anyone who cares to pay attention to my work.

Blogging is a professional responsibility, even if what I write is complete and utter garbage. Fancy that.

Thank you for reading, World. I’ll catch you later, my baby is calling.

xoxo Liv

  1. Seems harsh to call your writing “garbage.” I love your writing style. It’s personable and inviting. Besides, getting paid or not, everything written hones the skills.

And now I have this craving for coffee and ice cream… ❀

  2. Hello, Liv,

First of all, let me say that life’s little luxuries are important!

I remember back in high school, yes, back in the dark ages, I always listened to music while I did homework and it did seem to help me concentrate. Total quiet makes me crazy. My mind starts wandering and I lose focus. So yes, that does make sense to me.

I don’t think it’s egocentric of you to write this blog at all. You share your experiences. Sometimes we can relate to them and sometimes not. It’s your forum and you leave the door open, but it opens both ways! Actually, I think you need this blog to help you cope with everything else you do. And I love reading it and sharing my thoughts and ideas with you. It’s up to you to decide what that’s worth but see, that’s how it works both ways. You always update us on the progress you’ve made. I wonder if it would be the same if you didn’t have this blog.

And what you write here is not garbage.

    Have a great evening.

    Bill

    1. Awww, thanks Bill! I’m glad you enjoy your visits to my little internet abode πŸ™‚ It’s true, I think blogging every day helps motivate me to do more. It holds me accountable, if that makes sense. I hope you’re enjoying your summer day!
